Dreams of a Memory
“Dreams of a Memory” is a pictorial autobiography. The images illustrate both the childhood memories of growing up during the 90's and a falling out of a long term relationship with a computer science major. I have watched with dismay as technology becomes ever more consuming of people’s time and attention. The intent of technology is to improve upon quality of life, however, meaningful connections decay when people become overly engrossed in their digital devices. It seems that modern life is a constant struggle between man versus machine, natural versus synthetic, and God versus the mechanical god. This overlap of boundaries is replicated in my formal approach of the images. I merge the mechanically created and the hand drawn, making it difficult to distinguish between the two. It then becomes both a battle and a dance, for without technology civilization would not exist, yet with it, we have become estranged.
